The Otter Creek is a  mixed fishery with wild and stocked for Brook, Rainbow and Brown Trout. Otter Creek’s drainage area is 307 square miles! Starting as the outlet of Emerald Lake in Danby, It flows north 112 miles into Lake Champlain near Vergennes. My focus and provided intel is only from Danby to Center Rutland. Significant hatches include: Red Quills, Tan Caddis, Lt. Cahill and Fall Caddis.

From the Vermont Railway bridge north of the fishing access upstream (approximately 2 miles) to the Danby–Mt. Tabor Forest Road bridge (Forest Road #10).

  • Brook, Brown, and Rainbow Trout: season, second Saturday in April to Oct. 31; length limit, none; daily limit, total number of brook trout, brown trout, and rainbow trout, no more than 2

Most Vermont waters are open year around for catch & release fishing with flies & artificial lures. This includes all of Otter Creek from Lake Champlain to Emerald Lake.
